About UsEagle River Nordic was established in the Northwoods of Wisconsin in 1977. In 1981 we built an earth-sheltered passive solar ski center out in the Nicolet National Forest. This is our headquarters for bench testing skis and on-snow testing which collaborates the data from our bench test for the "best ski fit".
What sets us apart from all other cross country retail/mail order business is our testing of all the skis in our inventory, storing the data and fitting the skis to the skier. We test every ski we sell. We ask the skier questions re: height, weight, type of skiing, ability, where he intends to use the skis and snow/track conditions. With this information we look at our inventory and recommend skis or you can fill out the Ski Data Form on our website. We fit the skis to the skier and guarantee the fit of the skis.
We built the first model of the tester in 1979. It simply tested for flex of the skis. A few year's later, we developed the tester we have now that has pressure transducers every 10 cm and gives us a complete pressure distribution of the ski. The pressure distribution is the signature of that particular brand and model. We use this data for fitting skis to the skier. Over the course of years we've tested over 30,000 pairs of skis. We have skiers all over the United States & Canada, a few in Australia and even Japan that have bought their skis based on our testing. It works -- and makes our sport so much more enjoyable.
"The Fast Ski Catalog", mailed in 1979, was our first "catalog". It was a single legal size sheet printed on both sides (blue ink on grey paper). The next year we printed a "real catalog" (still blue on grey -- no 4-color). In 1982, we had our first 4-color catalog -- the beginning of our mail order business. We stock the highest quality equipment, apparel, wax and accessories that we use and believe in. We have satisfied customers all over the United States that will only buy their skis from Eagle River Nordic. Shop with confidence.
